Girl World #7: Alex Cooper, the Joy of Clutter, Winter in Paris, Sephora, Nicki Minaj, Taylor, Blonzing + Prada in Space

It's not our fault we're obsessed with Moo Deng. We're born that way.

Welcome to Girl World, a weekly newsletter inspired by Barbieland serving up inspirational content, need-to-know information, women in action, and a few bits and bites. We’re women—of course we can wear pink and crush our business goals. A Late August Media publication.

We can’t start this email without talking about the Season 2 finale of “Tell Us Lies.” We’re still reeling from everything that went down. From start to finish, the craziness didn’t stop. We’re trying to talk about it without spoiling it—but these characters are so messy. We’re Team Diana all the way and Lucy, girl, we gotta talk about your life choices. Big sister energy here though. It’s always interesting to watch this show because these characters are making decisions like any young person—like the very young people that we once were (still are?). This show is must-see TV because it’s essentially a nostalgic train wreck, but it’s also a reminder of how much we’ve grown as people since we were in college. Feels good, doesn’t it? Now to wait two years for Season 3.

Girl World saw the return of the Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show. We have mixed feelings about it. The show was fun to watch and it was great to see some of the OG girls take the stage along with a new set of diverse models. But, do we need it?

This week’s Girl World is full of incredibly strong and powerful women, leaders of all forms, and female-founded companies doing good and launching new fun projects. We have women standing in their strength and not shying away from their power. We’re learning how to support our grieving friends, cheering young female athletes on their victories, and we’re back to talking about Taylor Swift (not even sorry). We’re on a mission to reach our goals and champion our friends and other women, but we always find time for self-care and for having fun.

💌 The Weekly 6

  1. Natasha Rothwell in conversation with Quinta Brunson is an interesting read. And, don’t miss her new show on Hulu, How to Die Alone. It’s funny!

  2. The Joy of Clutter? We do our like our stuff.

  3. Nicki Minaj on breaking records, finding her style, motherhood, and more. We loved this gem: “When you turn a certain age—especially milestone ages like 30, 40, 50—your confidence as a women just grows and grows.” Hard yes.

  4. Dogs are entering their new era.

  5. Alex Cooper Is Blowing Up: “I’m a Motherf***er When It Comes to Business.”

  6. Grief can come in many forms for any type of loss—death, job, moving, etc. Too many of us don’t know how to navigate it or how to support a friend who is grieving though.

✌️ What We’re Doing This Weekend

The Eras Tour is back after hiatus and live from Miami tonight so we’ll be finding a blurry live stream to take part in the fun. If you have no idea what we’re talking about and are interested in joining in, search Youtube for Eras Tour Miami and you’ll eventually find someone streaming!

We’re still enjoying the farmer’s market. This weekend, we’re picking up a sugar pie pumpkin, apples, acorn and spaghetti squashes, kale, spinach, and carrots. It’s a healthy haul, but really, it balances out our losing war on not eating all of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups we bought for trick-or-treaters before Halloween. Moderation is key, right? Right? Halloween is right around the corner though and we’re feeling the spooky season vibes this weekend with a few of these spooky streaming movies

We’re adding a little culture to our lives this weekend by heading to the Museum of Science + Industry in Chicago. Even if you’ve been to a museum before, there’s usually something new. Plus, we can’t wait to check out the James Bond Exhibit. If you’re not local to Chicago, check out your local museums and art galleries to do the same.
