Girl World #6: Lovers Not Fighters, Wicked, Gilmore Girls, Beauty Advent Calendars, Swimsuit Models + Politics, Asking Dumb Questions

Everybody wants this. Seriously.

Welcome to Girl World, a weekly newsletter inspired by Barbieland serving up inspirational content, need-to-know information, women in action, and a few bits and bites. We’re women—of course we can wear pink and crush our business goals. A Late August Media publication.

Let’s just start this off with the great news that “Nobody Wants This” was renewed for Season 2—because everyone wants this. The obsession and virality of this show is further evidence that the dating scene isn’t working. Women know men like Adam Brody’s Noah exists IRL—but we’re all asking where they’re at. Seriously though. DM us and let us know. Taking golf lessons next year is already on our list.

How crazy is it that two government officials are in a “spat” over “Emily in Paris?” Pop culture and entertainment are often considered frivolous, but they actually influence our lives way more than we think. We know Emily in Paris isn’t real, but can we have a little bit more marketing realism, please? Thank you from every marketing girlie everywhere.

The Time Next100 Gala Red Carpet had some amazing fashion. Enjoy the looks here. We need invites so we can wear our fancy outfits.

💌 The Weekly 6

  1. Vice President Kamala Harris’ digital Vogue cover and feature story is a must-read.

  2. The lessons of aging. Two approaches, one story.

  3. We’re impatiently waiting for Wicked to premiere on Nov 22, but in the meantime we're reading this fun cover story about Ariana and Cynthia.

  4. Science is claiming humans are lovers, not fighters. Yes please.

  5. Kelly Bishop’s top Gilmore Girl moments.

  6. Being alone and lonely are not the same thing. Let’s explore the beauty of being alone.

🤩 Women to Watch

We love Congresswoman Jasmine Crocket from Dallas: She “has amassed growing recognition by introducing the art of the masterful clap back to a Democratic Party that hasn’t always been known for its quick repartee.”

Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow shared the same exact advice as their key to success.

💪 Women’s Health + Wellness

If shrinkflation didn’t happen to tampons like so many women on social media are claiming, then what’s going on? Women know all too well that gaslighting women and their health is common practice.

Try these ideas to add in more plant-based protein to your diet.

💖 Girl Vibes: Just for Fun

All about the Beetlejuice House. Obsessed.

We have our eye on a few pieces from the Cult Gaia x Gap Collaboration like this black tank with a little edge.

Can’t wait to dig into this new book about Victoria’s Secret.

Suede is big—huge—this fall—and suede bags are everywhere. Add one to your closet ASAP.

Add these 9 new restaurants to your to-dine list.

Kelly Rutherford is a "Birkin Mom” and we love her for it.

Signs someone is trying to “cuff” you this cuffing season.

🤓 2024 Women Political Watch: All Issues Are Women’s Issues

Of course, VP Harris’ growing support by women voters is led by Black women and Latinas.

Two SI Swimsuit models entered the Election 2024 chat.

The Latino battleground you haven’t heard about.

✌️ What We’re Doing This Weekend

We’re still thinking about “Tell Us Lies” Season 2, Episode 7. There’s so much to unpack that we may need to watch it again and then head over to TikTok where the real discussion is happening. We’re also digging into the new Taylor Swift Style: Fashions Through the Eras book, which was released this week. Fashion, Taylor, Reading—what more could Girl World ask for?

A new movie is out today on Netflix: Lonely Planet starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. It’s categorized as a romantic drama (not a rom com—or it is?), and we’ve already added to our watch list. Of course, we’re headed to the theater to see the Saturday Night movie, which is out today—the actual 25th anniversary of the premiere.

Now that the weather has cooled off, weekend baking projects are emerging. These apple spice muffins are on deck for the weekend along with this healthier pumpkin chili and savory acorn squash. We’re headed to get our pumpkins for pumpkin carving this weekend too—’tis the season!

How’s your Fall Bucket List coming along? This is your friendly reminder to check something off this weekend.
