Girl World #5: TV Obsessions, Winter Arcs, New Female-Founded Brand Collabs, Joker 2, Wanderlust + More
The girl power is strong this week. But, we might also just nap.

Welcome to Girl World, a weekly newsletter inspired by Barbieland serving up inspirational content, need-to-know information, women in action, and a few bits and bites. We’re women—of course we can wear pink and crush our business goals. A Late August Media publication.
How many times have you watched ‘Nobody Wants This,’ and why is the answer at least 2x? Or is it just us and everyone else on TikTok? From deciphering each character’s attachment style to searching for all of Kristen Bell’s character’s outfits, this rom com series has taken over the internet. And, we’re here for it.
Of course, on the complete opposite side of the emotions spectrum is ‘Tell Me Lies’ season 2. If you haven’t been watching this show, you’re missing out. All of the characters make lots of mistakes and give each other bad advice, it’s set mostly in 2007/2008 college, and the male lead is the personification of the medium ugly boy from college who completely destroyed you. We know Hulu wants to keep us going (and paying for our subs) with a weekly episode drop, but we need a full season binge drop stat. And, next week’s Episode 7 is the episode where the showrunner claimed it’s so crazy she might get canceled. We cannot wait.
Have you seen the winter arc trend on Tiktok? Essentially, it’s the idea that we use the beginning of October as a fresh start just like we use the New Year. When most people are slowing down and getting cozy, the trend advocates for dialing in on a goal or two now. And, if you keep scrolling the trend, you’ll see all kinds of content to support the theory.
One content creator (who we can’t tag because we were deep in TikTok at this point 🤣) suggested to search “October” in your photo library and look at photos from the beginning and end of the month from previous years. You might just see evidence of the October glow up theory that kicks off your winter arc. We had a few October glow up over the years here!

Unfortunately, there’s no shortage of shame when it comes to women in today’s society. This writer transformed her internalized and externalized shame into a strength.
Too many women and girls have a challenging relationship with food. How could we not? We’re fed shapes of bodies as trends, food categories are always deemed good and evil, and the diet industry is worth billions. What if we ate to fuel our bodies? No punishing, no guilt, no withholding. Just nourishment.

✌️ What We’re Doing This Weekend
Between the beginning of October (or Q4 for the business girlies) and the end of eclipse season, this week has been a little wonky, right? We’re keeping the weekend nice and light. Our movie night feature this weekend is ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ starring Lady Gaga. Are the reviews mixed? Yes. Are we still going to see it and supporting LG? Yes.
Oktoberfest celebrations are wrapping up so if you haven’t gone out and celebrated, check your local listings and enjoy the German beer, feast, and games while its here.
Now that the weather is starting to cool, we’re heading out for a fall hike. And, by hike, what we really mean is “a walk in the woods.” But, hike sounds way cooler and more athletic. We’re also back on our sourdough baking journey this weekend now that we can turn on our ovens without overheating. We might even make these apple turnovers this weekend—if we’re motivated enough. Or perhaps, we’ll just nap.
