Girl World #3: Making Friends, Emmy's Fashion, MILF Cinema, Fall Ice Cream + the Autumn Equinox

It's cozy season, y'all!

Welcome to Girl World, a weekly newsletter inspired by Barbieland serving up inspirational content, need-to-know information, women in action, and a few bits and bites. We’re women—of course we can wear pink and crush our business goals. A Late August Media publication.

It’s cozy season, y’all! 🍂 Well, it’s almost fall and still 90 degrees in Chicago. But, we’re ready for jeans season. There’s so many cute options this year. We cannot wait until we can comfortably layer (leather jacket season is so close!), and get cozy with a book and hot matcha latte. It’ll have to wait a little longer though—so iced matcha is where it’s at until further notice.

After Girl World’s big week last week, we can happily report that it’s been a little quieter this week. We totally forgot about the 2024 Emmy Awards until Sunday (oops), but don’t worry, we remembered just in time for the red carpet.

Here’s our top 4 looks for the evening:

Of course, if you haven’t caught up on Emily in Paris Season 4, get to it so we can talk about it! It’s already renewed for Season 5 (duh), but it’s got us wondering: when does Emily’s visa expire, girl? Tell us your secrets. For us woo woo girlies, we’re in the Fall 2024 Eclipse Portal so harness that energy. Don’t know what’s happening? We got you.

We did catch “Civil War” starring Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny on HBO Max this week and it was an all-too-real look at a dystopian future America that makes us happy to live in Girl World, but renewed our commitment to doing our part this Election season.

Let’s remember Amber Thurman, who recently died due to an Abortion Ban and named the first “preventable” death since the bans went into effect.

And, we can honor her by registering to vote and showing up on Election Day.

✌️ What We’re Doing This Weekend

This weekend marks the start of autumn with the first day of fall 2024 arriving on the autumn equinox: Sept 22. So, we’re embracing all things autumn. We’re heading to the farmer’s market for seasonal produce to make a hearty garden veggie soup and another batch of fresh-from-the-farm apples, and stopping by Trader Joe’s for flowers to make a DIY fall floral arrangement.

We’re 100% dropping by a Lush store and picking up a few of these new Halloween Bath Bombs and lighting some candles for a little Autumn Equinox soak. Of course, it wouldn’t be a fall weekend without a good book so we’re heading to our local bookstore to discover a new book we’ve never heard of.

Fall is a season full of fresh starts and fun so we’re in planning mode to make the most of the season. We’ve already booked our tickets to a haunted house and are eyeing the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Pop-Up in Chicago. Our fall bucket list already includes: a trip to the pumpkin patch (or try an apple orchard), a fall road trip, a few fall hikes (so calming), and planning an autumn al fresco dinner party. Stay tuned for more ideas!
