Girl World #16: Dior Bags, Babygirl, Cookbook Clubs, Solo Travel, Girlie Gadgets, Kylie Kelce, Mini Skirts, Sustainable Fashion Brands, and the Golden Globes

We're not actually working, right?

Welcome to Girl World, a weekly newsletter inspired by Barbieland serving up inspirational content, need-to-know information, women in action, and a few bits and bites. We’re women—of course we can wear pink and crush our business goals. A Late August Media publication.

Happy 2025! We’re still in out of office mode here—but we couldn’t leave Girl World hanging. So, when we realized it was Friday we climbed out of our blanket fort on the couch, and rounded up all of the best things we’ve been reading, watching, browsing, and binging.

Let’s start with Babygirl. If you haven’t seen it, it’s the perfect movie for you to go solo. The biggest mistake viewers over the holidays made—is going with their families. There’s some hilarious TikTok trends around this—we highly recommend you look it up. The second biggest mistake to make is not seeing this movie, because you’re going to have some feels.

Speaking of TikTok, we’re in the camp that it isn’t going anywhere in 2025, which is good because how could we get through the week without our TikTok Tarot girlies giving us pep talks about all of the wonderful things that are coming for us? Or what the world is talking about—hello, Dior Bags!

Now that it’s 2025, we have an opportunity for a fresh start. It doesn’t have to be a “new year, new me” situation. The new year provides us with an opportunity to take a step back from the day-to-day and reflect. The clean slate feeling gives us the momentum to adjust or make changes to create the lives we want to live. So rather than focusing on a huge list of big goals, we recommend picking a few goals and making a realistic plan that can help you achieve those goals. And, we’re huge fans of vision boards. Humans are visual creatures, after all.

You can easily skip the new year altogether and continue on as your badass self though. There are plenty more “fresh start” opportunities throughout the year: Lunar New Year, the Spring Equinox (the astrological new year), Memorial Day Weekend, and Labor Day Weekend. You can easily use each of these for a little life refresh, too.

And, remember, progress over perfection. Life isn’t an all or nothing game. Now, let’s go, girls (hey, Shania Twain!).

  1. The cookbook club is the new book club. Anyone else want to join one?

  2. If you want to be happier in 2025, use your body. From the seat that you sit in to the warm drink in your hand, it actually makes a difference!

  3. A neuroscientist explains how changing your routine can change your personality. Fascinating.

  4. Simple tips to be more compassionate and cultivate kindness this year.

  5. If you’re planning to solo travel this year, consider one of the most popular solo travel destinations.

  6. Gadgets for the girlies—they’re the beauty products that are all the rage on social media.

It’s awards season and here in Girl World, we’re tuning into all of them. We’re kicking it off this Sunday with the Golden Globes, and we can’t wait to see all of the beautiful red carpet looks. Because we love romanticizing our lives and making everything into a “moment,” we’re planning a mini charcuterie board and some other fun appetizers for what we like to call Girl Dinner 2.0: it’s still a little bit of this and that, but there’s some effort. Of course, we’ll have some non-alcoholic sparkling “wine.” This is our favorite in case you are partaking in Dry January.

We’re cleaning and organizing for the new year. We love to purge clothes and accessories we didn’t wear in 2024, and get all of our drawers and cabinets in working order.

Our biggest activity over the holiday break has been reading. There are so many good books and not enough time! We just started The Rules of Fortune by Danielle Prescod. It comes out next month, but you can access it early through Amazon First Reads.

And, we’re baking this weekend now that we’re back on the sourdough train. This weekend’s combo: sun-dried tomato and parmesan cheese sourdough loaf. 🤌
