Girl World #10: Digital Detoxes, A Wicked Interview, Gracie Abrams, Thailand Travels, Women-Only Residences, Cartoon Crushes + More

The word for the weekend: self-care

Welcome to Girl World, a weekly newsletter inspired by Barbieland serving up inspirational content, need-to-know information, women in action, and a few bits and bites. We’re women—of course we can wear pink and crush our business goals. A Late August Media publication.

Just like most of Girl World, we’re incredibly disappointed with how the election went this week and the amount of hate that’s already coming to the surface. None of us know what’s completely in store for us over the next four years—and that can be terrifying.

We see you. We feel you. We love you.

Whatever you’re feeling is exactly what you should be feeling. There are no “bad” feelings. And, you can feel all the feelings—and that’s ok too.

What we do know is that we need to grieve the the loss of the better future we wanted. The tough love here is that we have to come to terms with the loss of this hope and vision we had. It may take some of us days. It may take some of us weeks. There are no timelines. Grief isn’t linear—and that’s ok.

Whenever you’re ready, you’ll pick the sword back up and go into battle. Women aren’t quitters. We may be down—but we’re not out. We’ve never been a collective that had the luxury to rest on our laurels or give up. We’re going to take care of ourselves, care for our loved ones, and find community and connection with fellow women who share our vision for a better future. Then, we’ll get back to work. How do we know that? Because we’ve been here before. We all have. We have a 100% record of getting through tough times. That’s why we know we’ll get through this one, too.

But, first, we’re going to take a beat. We fancy ourselves a destination and space filled with positivity, hope, love, compassion, and growth. And, frankly, this week has been a little tough. We didn’t feel we could ignore the orange elephant in the room. So, our approach to this week’s newsletter is to provide you with a variety of content to enjoy, explore, give you a reprieve, distract you, or simply help you have a beautiful weekend.

With love and compassion, Jamie + Girl World.

✌️ What We’re Doing This Weekend

The word for the weekend: self-care. We all deserve it. Do something that lights you up. Do something that soothes your soul. Do something that makes your heart smile. Connect with yourself. Connect with others.

What to Watch this Weekend: Barbie Movie (HBO Max) and Eras Tour (Disney+) or re-watch any of your old-school favorite series like Scandal (Hulu+), Girls (HBO Max), Gilmore Girls (Netflix), Friends (HBO Max), etc.

What to Read: It’s a 100% fiction weekend. Consider: How My Neighbor Stole Christmas, Friends in Napa, House Moms, One in a Millennial

Other activities: Take a long, hot bath. Head to a park or go on a hike to connect with nature. Go to brunch with your friends or family. Grab a coffee with a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Get a workout in: yoga, pilates, barre, long walks, a good run—you get the idea. Consider organizing your space. Release the extra “stuff.” Donate things you don’t use anymore. Buy yourself some flowers.
